Couching findings, metal threads and wires
Class Description
During this class, we will be couching bits & pieces, findings, metal threads and wires, creating a surface design, with a colour theme of your choice.
Colour themes can be simply one colour, or a colour theme of 2 or 3 colours, or shading through one colour from light to dark, or using a varigated colour thread.
The base fabric can also be a colour, or neutral such as white, cream, grey or black.
The class will be about the intensity of couching colour, the placement, and spacing of your findings, creating a surface design.
Requirements
You will need . . .
- 8 inch ring frame or equivalent
- doubled calico or cotton for your frame, or 2 layers of calico or cotton fabric for your frame
- stranded cotton thread, or equivalent a colour theme of your choice
- findings, metal threads and wires for couching, nothing too big, which can include . . .
- paper clips
- fastenings such as hooks & eyes, press studs, etc
- broken jewellery parts
- watch and clock parts
- curtain hooks and rings
- different wires
- metal threads
- screws and nails
- washers
- staples
- safety pins
- beads, buttons and sequins
- anything you have at hand
- general sewing kit including thread scissors, and needles
- beeswax optional
